Younger clients make up a smaller portion of our estate planning base. But they need to think about their estate planning issues, as well. We love to see them, and think they ought to be showing up in greater numbers.
Those younger clients might not have as much accumulated wealth. They might not feel particularly mortal, either. But they do often have spouses and children. And they might have complicated personal situations to deal with.
Letting estate planning slide is a bad precedent. It’s true that Arizona’s legislature has effectively drafted an estate plan for everyone, young or old. It’s just that they might well have gotten it wrong.
And it’s also important to recognize that estate planning is not just about wills — or even just wills and trusts. There are also powers of attorney, beneficiary designations and other planning choices to consider. Even our younger clients need to get serious about dealing with those concerns.
